A New York couple has named their newborn son Knickson Fyve, a tribute to the chant that spread across the city after the New York Knicks won their first championship in more than 50 years, according to ESPN.

Who are the parents?

Vance and Yvonne Bradford are described by ESPN as die-hard Knicks fans who were expecting their child in the summer of this year. The couple was in New York on June 13 when the Knicks clinched the title, and they told ESPN they heard neighbors chanting from open windows that night.

Why the name Knickson?

Vance Bradford told ESPN that jokes had already been circulating online about parents naming babies after Knicks players once the team won it all. "A lot of the jokes going around, memes on social media, was 'There's going to be a lot of Jalens named after this. There's going to be a lot of KATs, OGs,'" he said, referring to guard Jalen Brunson, who scored 45 points in the Finals-clinching game, and other Knicks players.

Rather than pick a player's name, Yvonne Bradford suggested a different route the next morning: Knickson, pronounced like "Nixon." Vance said the couple initially planned to use it only as a first name and choose a more conventional middle name.

What does Fyve mean?

The name's second half comes directly from the chant the Bradfords heard outside their apartment after Game 5 of the Finals: "Knicks in five! Knicks in five!" Vance told ESPN that chant "kind of sat with us." Two days after settling on Knickson, Yvonne pushed to commit fully, telling her husband, "Let's go full force with this. Let's call him Knickson Fyve," according to the ESPN report.

Are other babies getting Knicks-themed names?

ESPN cited one report showing 32 babies were named Jalen in New York City between March and early October this year, more than double the 15 recorded over the same stretch the previous year. The Bradfords were aware of that trend before choosing their son's name, according to ESPN, but opted for something tied to the moment rather than a specific player.

What comes next for Knicks fans?

The team has since begun selling single-game tickets for its title-defense season, according to a separate HTT News report on the club's offseason moves following the championship. For the Bradford family, the next chapter is simpler: raising a newborn whose name will likely prompt a story every time it's read aloud at a doctor's office or school roll call in New York for years to come.

ESPN's report does not include additional details on the Bradfords' location within New York or plans for future children, and no other named sources were cited in the original story.
